Illuminating the Washington Park district of North Plainfield, New Jersey
Heritage in stained glass
The Washington Park Association is developing a book project that would feature the beautiful stained glass windows in the homes of our neighborhood.
In the stained glass world, the windows are called "lights," hence the planned title of the book: "The Lights of Washington Park: The Beauty and History of Some of North Plainfield, New Jersey's, Most Distinctive Stained Glass Windows.”
A finished book of this type could be a wonderful fund raiser and WPA focal point, and great for your own coffee table.
The Star-Ledger newspaper published a photo feature on Easter Sunday 2006 about one of the projects within the project. A group of volunteers took down a mirror that had blocked a neighbor's view of her stained glass. You can see the report here.
How to help
If you have a stained glass window in your home, we would very much
like to include it in the book
Ken Lombardo, the project designer and coordinator, has been taking these pictures on Saturday mornings. Please allow him 15 minutes to take photographs and provide any notes you might have about the window. He hopes to feature a caption for each window displayed and perhaps, points of history where appropriate or particularly interesting.
